Sponge

Dish brush above the sponge

In Spain dish brush is not used to do the dishes. Sponge is used instead of a dish brush. I could not even find dish brushes in a super market. I think that IKEA would have been one the few places where I could have got one but I decided to use a sponge. After returning to Finland I have been using mostly sponge and not dish brush like before. I think that washing glasses is much easier with the sponge. Doing the dishes with the sponge seems now more practical.

Spanish speakers dinner

Today we had a Spanish dinner with students who would like to speak Spanish more fluently. We are mostly Finnish and few Spanish. We did not stick all the time in Spanish. We spoke also Finnish and English. There are also other groups of other languages organized where the goal is to get more fluent in speaking. I think that natives can help a lot by speaking and by encouraging language learners to speak the language what they haven been studying. Improving fluency of a language is much more fun than studying grammar or new words.

Croquettes

Croquettes (croquetas in Spanish)

Great that also here in Joensuu is Spanish people who can teach me how to prepare Spanish food. Now I know how to make croquettes. Croquettes can be prepared in different ways with different ingredients but I will explain what we did. We heated the frying pan with some olive oil. After that we added little by milk and flour in turns. We also added cut boiled eggs and ham. After the dough was ready we let it to cool down to form the shape more easily. In the end we dipped them in mixed egg and then in breadcrumbs before frying in the olive oil.

Bike stolen

Especially Spanish have been really amazed that nothing gets stolen in Finland. One Spanish guy rode a bike without locking it and finally after five months his bike got stolen. Based on the what Spanish said in Spain bike would be stolen from the street even when locked. I have noticed also that some Spanish exchange students do not mind to steal little things like toilet paper from the bathroom of the university or even something little from the supermarket.

Spanish slapshot

This video shows how Spanish can shoot a slapshot with ice hockey stick. The part of the crowd cheering is taken from my Spanish video archives and shows the atmosphere which I tried to describe in this and this post.

Touch

Spanish people touch each other much more than the Finnish people. When meeting it is common to touch shoulder or arm gently. While having a conversation with someone touching is also involved and other might even suddenly grab your arm firmly while explaining something exciting. Sometimes people just become more touchy even without any particular reason. In Finland it would be gayish if some other male would brush your hair like sometimes Spanish people do.

Sauna

Seems like Finnish people can tolerate well with extreme temperatures. Extreme cold during the winter time and extremely hot in sauna. Foreigners prefer sauna without throwing water to the rocks or they have even never thought about possibility to throw some water to the rocks. on the contrary Finnish like to throw water to the rocks. When in public sauna Finnish people throw a lot of water to the rocks foreigners leave the sauna very quickly. Foreigners feel like their skin is burning or they find it difficult to breathe.
